Rig Tuning

Tuning your rig is the process of balancing the rig tension. Our rig tuning process includes centering the masthead relative to the deck, plumbing the mast column and bringing the shrouds and stays up to the appropriate tension. Mast and Rigging Inspection

• The standard inspection includes a visual, non-destructive check of all shrouds and stays, swaged terminal end fittings, turnbuckles, and rod heads for signs of cracking, wear and deterioration.
• Check all clevis pins, cotter pins, shackles for wear and distortion.
• Assess the condition of all the running rigging: halyards, sheets, control lines, etc for chafe, UV degradation and general serviceability.
• Check all splices. Look for signs of wear and distortion.
• Check all lifeline hardware and wire.
• Visually check the mast and boom components for cracks in welds, loose fasteners, dents, abrasions and corrosion.
• Check mast halyard entrances and exits for sharp edges.
• Check that sheaves run freely and bearing surfaces are not cracked or scored.
• Check that the inboard ends of spreaders are secure to the mast and the shrouds are secure in the spreader tips.
• Generally check for wear and corrosion.
• Check the gooseneck and all block attachments points on the boom for fatigue and wear.

The layout of hardware on the deck is based on the specific function of each piece of equipment and the sailing style of the owner. For example, the layout of hardware to run the jib halyard back to the cockpit may be quite different for a single-handed ocean racer than it is for an owner with regular crew who is strictly interested in cruising.
